Busy day today - we are so pooped - it's like 11:30 NZ time but we did so much today and had a massive dinner so bed sounds great - but I'm worried if I don't update regularly I'll forget some of the amazing things that we have done!
So we settled into this Cactus Jack place okay and then went to Lava Bar (something I was so keen on doing that it made its way onto my must do list) - turns out its not so much a must do as I thought! It was kinda lame and the locals don't associate with the tourists and the tourists don't associate with the locals! Turned out okay coz we came back to the backpackers place and meet some lovely locals - they took us back and we had a better night after that!
Then today was Adventure day!! Way to celebrate 10/10/10!!!
Started with Starbucks - couldn't function without it - I am so not cut out for backpacker life... the room is tiny and showers cold and I am not nice enough before coffee to consider speaking to people! But i'm getting used to the sharing and stuff and tomorrow Dan said he will teach us to use the backpacker laundry as we never did get around to practice using a coin operated one back home.
Ok adventures started with the Gondola and Luge at the SkyTower - so much fun! The paddock underneath the Gondola had heaps of old dinosaur figures in it, which seems way random - thing someone got a good deal on E Bay and then didn't know what to do with them as they were just lying around.
Anyways luge ing was so fun - did beginners, intermediate, then Chrissy dropped her shoe off the chairlift (after I attacked her trying to get on it - that poor girl is going to hate me but the chairlift thing confused me a little) so they gave us a free ride to go down and retrieve it - and then we totally smashed the advanced course! What an achievement to get through a whole ride thats made for children without chickening out!!!
After that was the Agrodome, this bizarre sheep show with like all different breeds and a cow and sheep dogs. I milked a cow! it was absolutely disgusting! But i did get a Certificate of Udderance and was super grateful to be carrying hand sanitiser. Definetely can cross farmer off my list of potential NZ careers!
So after that we went and Schweeb-ed which is like a fast bike thing. Chrissy beat me by like 5 whole seconds - I couldn't work the gears (much like driving) and it was pretty tough. and after that - FREEFALL XTREME!!!! Which was way harder than the stupid Coca Cola add made it look. You had to like hold your body a certain way and stuff and I kind fell about and stuff - I have a dvd so if i can figure out how to upload the video you can laugh at my stupidity. Anyways it was still cool - so fun and they spun us about and stuff!
After that we Zorbed - which I imagined was the funnest thing ever - and turns out it was even funner than I thought it would possibly ever be. We paid for the one in the water by ourselves and it was so fun - honestly - like all my dream involve rolling down a hill and this was incredible! Anyways so after gracefully getting out of the Zorb (well as gracefully as you can when the only means of getting out resembles being given birth to) me and Chrissy decided we had to have another go! So - after tightening my swim top (thank god they didn't take videos in ours!) - we went and did one together which was even more fun! Craziest thing ever - gotta love New Zealand - and gotta love New Zealand boys - they gave us that last ride for free!
After that was back to hostel for (cold) showers and then pick up to Mitai Maori cultural show! Got picked up by the loveliest lady ever. The show was awesome - hard to describe but the Maori warriors rode a canoe thing up the stream (and down and up and down) for a bit - accidently set fire to their boat to! and then did some dancing and singing and talked about maori exercise, weapons, tattoo games etc. then we learnt some movements and went to dinner. Ate way too much - but it was the closest thing to home cooking we have had besides our expertly cooked two minute noodles and toast (OMG I ate a whole bowl of 2 minute noodles - bet no one from work can believe it!) and it was sooo good. After that we headed over to the Rainbow Springs kiwi park. It was amazing we actually saw a kiwi up close and like not behind glass or anything! It was reallly cute - it had like a beak and moved and everything!
Hmmm - so then back to the backpacker place - then off to find a bar! Found an indian restaurant instead but eventually got to somewhere that was open and full of people who were discussing NZ right to vote and Australias big race crisis (Do I live under a rock coz I did not know we had a race crisis???)
We are absolutely buggered though - massive day today! We booked an extra night at Cactus Jack's coz a day at the spa and mud baths is definetely just what the doctor ordered for tomorrow. We are keen to give Lone Star a try too and need to do some shopping and laundry (and the aforementioned laundry classes).
After that it is a drive to Auckland overnight with stops at Whakatane and Te Puke on the way, then heading to the Bay of Islands, another overnight stay in Auckland so we can party at Carpark again. At the moment the trip looks like heading from Auckland to Taupo then Wellington across the water to the top of the South Island and then back to Wellington for the footy then back to the South Island then a flight to Auckland then back to Christchurch then home. We are clearly not awesome at plannign things coz our trip is circles and back and forths but all fun and games and we are having an absolute blast.
PS. Still driving safely and still no chance to wear my rabbit fur scarf! Miss everyone back home!
